SPX Corporation to Acquire The Valley Forge Group
    MUSKEGON, Mich., May 19 -- SPX Corporation today
announced it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase The Valley Forge
Group of Exton, Pennsylvania, for an undisclosed amount.  Subject to
regulatory approval, SPX anticipates the transaction will close in June.
    Valley Forge develops service procedures, owners' literature and service
training materials, and provides other services such as language conversion
and labor time studies, for vehicle manufacturers around the world.  With
revenues in excess of $30 million, Valley Forge employs approximately 300
people at facilities in the US and Europe.  Valley Forge will become a part of
SPX's Service Solutions business.
    John B. Blystone, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of SPX
Corporation said, "The acquisition of Valley Forge will provide SPX with the
additional talent and new customer base necessary to accelerate the growth of
our technical information services business.  Valley Forge's capabilities will
enhance our existing bundle of value-added services and build upon the
expertise we gained with our acquisition of A.R. Brasch just over a year ago.
This is another step in our strategy to support the global service readiness
activities of original equipment manufacturers."
