Tenneco Announces Appointment of Strom as Vice President-Quality

    GREENWICH, Conn., May 12 -- Tenneco today announced the
appointment of Stephen H. Strom as Tenneco's vice president-quality.
    Reporting to Tenneco Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dana Mead and
Chief Operating Officer Paul Stecko, Strom will lead the company's total
quality management process, focusing on improving customer satisfaction and
reducing the cost of quality in every area of Tenneco's business operations.
Tenneco's cost of quality program addresses critical processes that have the
greatest opportunity to reduce costs linked to quality and customer
satisfaction.
    Formerly director, strategy and business planning for Tenneco Automotive,
Strom joined Tenneco in 1995.  Prior to that, he was with the Department of
Defense and the U.S. Army for more than 25 years as a combat arms officer and
strategic planner.Strom is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy with a
bachelor of science degree in national security and public affairs.  He earned
a master's degree in public affairs from Princeton University and a master's
degree in business administration from Long Island University.  Strom is a
Diplomado de Estado Mayor from the Spanish Army War College and a National
Security Fellow of the J.F.K. School of Government at Harvard University.
