Treadco Acquires Operations of Commercial Tire

    FORT SMITH, Ark., May 8 -- Treadco, Inc. today
announced the acquisition of substantially all the assets of Commercial Tire
Service, Inc. located in Augusta, Georgia.  Commercial Tire is a full service
new tire and retread truck tire operation, utilizing the Oliver Rubber Company
retread process.
    "Combining Commercial Tire's Augusta location with our existing locations
will expand our coverage in the Southeast," said John R. Meyers, President and
Chief Executive Officer.  "I am pleased that the current management of
Commercial Tire will be working with Treadco in the future.  Derral Creswell,
the President of Commercial Tire, brings to Treadco valuable knowledge,
experience and contacts in the truck tire business."
    Treadco is the nation's largest independent truck tire retreader and the
fourth largest commercial truck tire dealer with 55 locations in the southern
half of the United States.
