AAMA's Card to Serve as President of Global Automakers' OrganizationWASHINGTON, May 6 -- It was announced today that Andrew H. Card, Jr., President & CEO of the American Automobile Manufacturers Association (AAMA), has been named President of the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA). Card, who has served as OICA's First Vice President since 1996, was elected President at the organization's General Assembly Meeting in Paris, France. The semi-annual meeting of the General Assembly included representatives of automotive manufacturing associations from all of the leading auto-producing countries around the world, as well as those of emerging producing countries in Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Card indicated that one of the primary goals of his term will be to accelerate and advance the work currently underway to seek the harmonization of automotive regulations around the world. "Widely differing safety and emissions regulations issued by governments around the world are a major remaining barrier to expanding automotive sales and trade opportunities for all parties," Card said. "It is my hope that OICA will become the leading voice of the world's auto producers to encourage their respective governments to expedite efforts on global automotive standards harmonization." OICA, known in Europe as the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles, is a Paris-based organization comprised of the national trade associations of motor vehicle manufacturers throughout the world. OICA represents the common views of its members on technical vehicle regulations and other socio-economic or industrial policies impacting the manufacture and use of motor vehicles before intergovernmental and international bodies, including the United Nations. AAMA is the trade association whose members are Chrysler Corporation , Ford Motor Company and General Motors Corporation . Visit AAMA's site on the World Wide Web at http://www.aama.com.
