5 May 1998

Audi Delivers Its Millionth Car in U.S. With Best April Since 1987

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 5 -- Audi of America, Inc. reported
U.S. sales of 4,326 for the month of April, representing a 31 percent increase
over the same month last year when sales were 3,303. With this month's robust
sales, Audi delivered its millionth car here in the United States during the
month of April.
Audi came to these shores in 1969 and began selling cars in 1970.
Including April's sales, Audi of America has now sold 1,000,395 vehicles in
the U.S.
This April was Audi's best April and best overall sales month since 1987.
The primary drivers of this success remain Audi's exciting A4 and new A6
models. The blast-to-drive A4 trio is running at 12.5 percent above last
April's results with the sale of 1,094 A4 1.8 T sedans, 1,139 A4 2.8 sedans
and 277 A4 Avant sport wagons.
The daring new A6 sedan continues to return extremely strong results with
a 182.6 percent increase over last April's A6 sedan sales. 1,433 new A6
sedans were delivered in April. This month's results make April the best
sales month yet for both of Audi's newest products: the A4 Avant and the new
A6 luxury touring sedan.
Audi has demonstrated this kind of year-over-previous-year sales increase
for 39 of the last 41 months. So far in 1998, Audi has sold 13,168
automobiles representing a 19.5 percent increase over the same period last
year when the total was 11,018.
