Federal-Mogul Appoints Kevin W. Baird Vice President, Sealing Systems - Europe

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., May 5 -- Wilhelm A. Schmelzer, executive
vice president - Sealing Systems, Federal-Mogul Corporation ,
announces the appointment of Kevin W. Baird to vice president, Sealing Systems
- Europe effective June 1, 1998.  Baird will replace Jean-Pascal Laffaille who
is leaving the organization to pursue other business opportunities.
    "Kevin's extensive operational experience, along with his strong
understanding of both our manufacturing and aftermarket businesses will be key
to the success of our sealing systems organization in Europe," said Schmelzer.
    As vice-president, Sealing Systems - Europe, Baird will be responsible for
the gasket and seal operations in Europe for original equipment and
aftermarket customers, in addition to business activities in the rest of the
world, including subsidiaries and joint ventures in Brazil, South Africa,
India and China.
    Prior to this appointment Baird held the position of vice president -
logistics.  Baird was appointed to his current position in October 1995.
Previously, he held a series of positions in the seal manufacturing group,
including plant superintendent, Summerton, South Carolina, plant manager,
Frankfort, Indiana and plant manager, Van Wert, Ohio.  His initial assignments
were in sales and distribution in the aftermarket.
    Baird earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the
University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from
Allegheny College, Meadville, Pennsylvania.
