James D. Holderbaum Named Vice President - Business Advancement and Controller - Steel

    CANTON, Ohio, May 4 -- James D. Holderbaum has been named
vice president - business advancement and controller - steel for The Timken
Company .  He is responsible for long-term strategy development, as
well as the financial management, for the steel business.
    "Jim's promotion to this new position reflects the continued profitable
growth of the company and, in particular, the steel business," said Bill J.
Bowling, executive vice president, chief operating officer and president -
steel.  "Our steel operations have grown to a billion dollar business with
sales nearly doubling in the last five years.  We are continuing to pursue
growth strategies that Jim will guide in his new role."
    Mr. Holderbaum started his career with the company in 1967 as an
accounting trainee in Canton.  He worked as a financial analyst before joining
the steel business in 1976 as manager - production scheduling and control.
Since that time, he has held the positions of general manager - production
planning, director - production systems, general manager - manufacturing
control, general manager - business economics, and director - order cycle
management and business economics. Most recently, Mr. Holderbaum served as
director - business advancement and controller - steel.
    He is a graduate of Massillon Washington High School, Massillon, Ohio. Mr.
Holderbaum earned a bachelor of science in banking - finance from Miami
University, Oxford, Ohio.
