American Announces April Honda Sales

American Honda Sales Shatter April Records
TORRANCE, Calif., May 1 -- American Honda shattered its April
sales record dating back to 1989 and recorded its second best sales month
ever, according to figures released today by American Honda Motor Co. Inc.
Total sales of 86,886 were up 12.5 percent from April '97 and topped the
previous record for the month of 79,221 set in 1989. The American Honda sales
total has been topped previously only in August of last year. Year-to-date
total American Honda sales of 306,236 are running 8.5 percent ahead of 1997's
all-time record pace.
Honda Division sales of 77,571 were up 13.1 percent and also set a new
April record, lead by a 25.9 percent surge in Accord sales and monthly records
for Civic, CR-V, total cars and total vehicles. Honda Division sales have now
set records in 12 of the past 16 months.
Acura Division sales of 9,315 were up 8.4 percent, topped by record April
sales of the CL luxury sports coupe and TL luxury sedan, up 29.2 percent and
12.4 percent respectively.
