Brian Betz Named Manager, Product and Technical Information for Mazda North American Operations

    IRVINE, Calif., April 30 -- The appointment of Brian Betz to
the newly created position of manager, product and technical information for
Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), was announced by Jay Amestoy, vice
president of Public and Government Affairs.
    Betz, who will be located in MNAO's corporate headquarters in Irvine, will
serve as a liaison between public affairs and the company's product marketing
and planning groups, as well as Mazda Motor Corporation Public Relations in
Hiroshima, Japan.  Betz's responsibilities will include Mazda's national press
fleet and handling media inquiries on Mazda historical, pricing, and product-
related issues.
    "Brian brings a wealth of technical knowledge," Amestoy said.  "We are
extremely pleased that he is joining the Public Affairs Department."
    Betz previously served as a senior instructional designer for MNAO's
Technical Training Department, where he was responsible for designing,
developing, and delivering curriculum to Mazda dealer technicians.  Before
joining Mazda in 1991, he worked for CraneMorley, Inc., a media communications
and production company specializing in the automotive industry.
    Betz graduated from San Diego State University with a BA in English.
    Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the research and
development, sales and marketing, and customer parts and service support of
Mazda vehicles in the United States.  MNAO has approximately 850 dealerships
nationwide and is owned by Mazda Motor Corporation, Hiroshima, Japan.
