Dana Named `Supplier of the Year' By John DeereMANCHESTER, Mo., April 30 -- Dana Corporation's Perfect Circle Sealed Power Division, which supplies piston rings to John Deere from its Manchester, MO, plant, has been named "1997 Supplier of the Year" by the John Deere Engine Works. The award, the highest honor bestowed on a supplier by Deere, went to the Dana plant as the result of participation in Deere's "Achieving Excellence Program." It was presented at a recent banquet honoring Deere's top suppliers at Deere's facility in Dubuque, Iowa. "This award was the result of extraordinary performance in each of Deere's Achieving Excellence measurables by the Manchester plant and by Dana engineering and sales personnel," said Martin Schramm, Manager, Materials and Supply for Deere. Schramm said Dana's performance included, "100% on time delivery. Parts are always here on-time, like clock work, with no follow up needed, with zero parts per million defects." He added that Deere has experienced no field problems with Dana power cylinder products. "The Quality and Production people go beyond anything that is asked of them." "Deere and Dana engineers worked jointly to develop a new ring pack for the 6081 engine that reduced cost and improved performance," added Schramm. "The production and quality people are assertive in contacting Deere and discussing any item that could interrupt a smooth operation for both parties," he added. "They have always been an upfront and trustworthy supplier. Their attitude of `we have a problem to resolve' demonstrates they are team players." Certified as a QS-9000 facility since 1996, the Manchester plant manufactures piston rings plus transmission rings and spacers for the heavy duty, automotive, and industrial markets. The facility also received a "Partner Award" from both John Deere's Engine Works and Deere's Dubuque Works for 1997. Another Dana Engine Components supplier, Victor Reinz, has also received a Partner Award from Deere.
