Standard Products to Open Automotive Plant in PolandDEARBORN, Mich., April 29 -- The Standard Products Co. announced today that it has established a subsidiary in Poland and has acquired land and a partially completed building in the Polish city of Bielsko-Biala. The Company will expand and complete construction of the building over the next few months and begin producing automotive sealing products at the facility by the end of calendar 1998. The 55,000-square-foot plant will supply sealing products for all Palio vehicles assembled in Fiat's facilities in Bielsko-Biala, Poland. The Company intends to expand its presence in Poland in the future as customer demand increases. "The expansion of our production capabilities into Poland fits perfectly with our global strategy," said Theodore K. Zampetis, Standard Products president and chief operating officer. "Poland is a low-cost producing country located in the midst of the emerging East European market. "As a global supplier of sealing and trim systems," he continued, "we want to be located close to our customer base and to be positioned to support the continued market growth that we are aggressively pursuing." The Poland plant will be the fifth new automotive sealing plant the Company has added in the past five years. Since 1993, Standard Products has opened new plants in the U.S., Brazil and Mexico and is currently constructing a new factory in France that will replace an older facility. Standard Products manufactures sealing, trim and vibration control systems for the automotive original equipment industry in North and South America and Europe. Its Holm Industries subsidiary produces seals for residential refrigerators, freezers, doors and windows.
