Mitsubishi Motors Announces Restructuring Of Japanese Executive Management

     Company Changes Reflect Efforts to Enhance U.S. Group Profitability

    CYPRESS, Calif., April 28 -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of
America, Inc. (MMSA), Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America, Inc. (MMMA)
and Mitsubishi Motors America, Inc. (MMA) jointly announced management changes
affecting Japanese executives in the U.S., which relate to a new management
structure announced by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) in Japan today.
These management changes will be effective June 25, 1998.
    Under the new structure, Mr. Takashi Sonobe, currently President and CEO
at MMSA, will become Chairman and Senior CEO of MMSA and MMMA, succeeding Mr.
Michio Yamashita, who will become Executive Advisor at MMMA.  Mr. Hiroshi
Yajima, currently MMSA's Executive Vice President, Corporate Planning, will
become President and CEO of MMSA.  There are no plans at this time to name a
replacement for Mr. Yajima.
    The new President and CEO of MMMA will be Mr. Mitsuru Ito, currently Board
Member and Works General Manager at MMC's Mizushima Motor Vehicle Works in
Japan, replacing Mr. Takahisa Komoto, who will become President of Pajero
Manufacturing of Japan, a manufacturing subsidiary of MMC.
    Mr. Yukimichi Kitane, currently Board Member and Deputy Corporate General
Manager of the Passenger Car Strategy Office at MMC, will become President of
MMA, replacing Mr. Kyo Fujioka, who will become President of MMC
International, a subsidiary of MMC in Japan.
    In a related organizational change, Mr. Seiichi Uo, currently President of
Mitsubishi Motors Credit of America, Inc. (MMCA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of
MMSA, will return to Japan to become Managing Director of Mitsubishi Auto
Credit Lease of Japan, a credit and lease subsidiary of MMC.  In order to more
closely align and coordinate the operations of MMCA and MMSA, no replacement
will be named as President of MMCA.  Instead, MMCA's operations will report
directly to the senior management of MMSA.
    "Under the new management at MMSA, MMMA, and MMA, we will continue our
efforts to enhance our individual and group profitability and to work more
closely and effectively together," said Mr. Sonobe.  "We will also continue to
strengthen and improve Mitsubishi Motors' presence in the U.S. market."
    MMSA is located in Cypress, Calif., and distributes a variety of passenger
cars and sport utility vehicles bearing the Mitsubishi Motors brand name
through 500 dealerships in the U.S.  MMMA, located in Normal, Ill., is the
manufacturing arm of MMC in the U.S.  MMA, based in Southfield, Mich., is
MMC's liaison company in the U.S. handling technical compliance and government
affairs.
