SSI Technologies, Inc., Named GM Supplier of the Year

SSI Technologies, Inc., Named GM Supplier of the Year for Second Consecutive YearJANESVILLE, Wis., April 28 -- SSI Technologies, Inc. has been named Supplier of the Year by General Motors for 1997, the second consecutive year that the company earned this honor. Of more than 30,000 suppliers serving GM worldwide, 182 were acknowledged at a major awards presentation in Mexico City for providing outstanding quality, service, technology development and price competitiveness in 1997. The awards program was headed by GM's vice president of worldwide purchasing, Harold R. Kutner, who referred to the winning suppliers as the "best of the best" in their business. SSI was honored in the category of automotive sensors. The company produces anti-lock brake (ABS) and electronic shift transmission speed sensors for GM cars, trucks and vans. Accepting the award on behalf of the company's 95 employees was David S. Baum, SSI's president and chief executive officer. "Last year, I challenged our employees to continue their flawless service to one of our major customers, General Motors, and repeat the outstanding achievement of 1996," said Mr. Baum. "They have done so and have put SSI in the very distinguished company of those who have been named to this honor for two consecutive years." The companies recognized for 1997 were selected by GM teams of purchasing, quality, engineering and manufacturing personnel from GM operations around the world. Powder metal components produced by SSI are also installed on GM light truck ABS systems. SSI has delivered more than 55 million sensors to the global automotive industry since 1987.
