Donnelly Corporation Named a Top GM Supplier for Third Straight Year

HOLLAND, Mich., April 27 -- For the third year in a row,
General Motors Worldwide Purchasing has named Donnelly Corporation
a Supplier of the Year. Donnelly is one of only 182 companies to receive this
award for performance during 1997, and is the only U.S. automotive mirror
supplier to win the award in three consecutive years.
"Being named a GM Supplier of the Year is recognized as a tremendous honor
in the auto industry, an honor few companies ever receive. Now Donnelly has
earned the added distinction of receiving this prestigious award three years
running -- placing us in an elite group," said Dwane Baumgardner, Donnelly
chairman and chief executive officer. "Donnelly Corporation didn't win this
award. Hundreds of hard-working Donnelly employees did. The exciting part is
that we're really beginning to show the auto industry what we can do."
Donnelly currently produces mirrors, windows and interior trim and
lighting products for use by GM in North America, South America, Europe, Asia
and Australia.
"Donnelly is truly globally competitive and, by virtue of this reward, is
recognized as a worldwide leader in product development, technology,
manufacturing, continuous improvement, value and most importantly, quality,"
said Harold R. Kutner, GM's vice president for worldwide purchasing and North
American production control & logistics.
For 1997, GM selected only 182 of its 30,000 suppliers to receive the
award. Winning companies were selected by GM teams of purchasing, quality,
engineering and manufacturing experts. These teams looked at supplier
performance in terms of quality, service and price.
GM began the Supplier of the Year Award in Germany over 20 years ago. The
award was expanded to include all of Europe in 1989, and became an
international award in 1992.
The award ceremony was held April 25 in Mexico City. Joining Kutner for
the presentations and award ceremonies were John F. "Jack" Smith, Jr., GM
chairman, CEO and president, and G. Richard Wagoner, Jr., GM executive vice
president of North American Operations. In the coming weeks, GM
representatives will visit Donnelly's Holland operations to make an award
presentation to the employees.
Donnelly Corporation is an international automotive supplier dedicated to
serving customers around the globe with industry-leading components and
systems in automotive mirrors, windows and interior trim and lighting.
