American Tire Corporation Announces New TechnologyRAVENNA, Ohio, April 22 -- American Tire Corporation announced it has completed the development of a new concept and technology for the manufacture of a flat free Urethane non-pneumatic tire. The new product is unique in its ability to provide the key desirable characteristics of a pneumatic rubber tire such as rolling resistance and softness of ride and maintain the good characteristics of the non-pneumatic tire such as being flat free, maintenance free, easy to mount and improved tread wear. Marcy Janus, American Tire Corporation's Manager of Sales, says our major customers are on edge just waiting for this product. Roger Fleming, President and Richard Steinke, Chairman of the Board, who are handling the equipment and startup financing for American Tire Corporation, have indicated this tire could hit the market by June of 1998. Jim Moore, who is responsible for American Tire Corporation's molding and processing operations, says the chemistry and processing specifications necessary to make this unique product are complete and only the processing equipment expected in early May 1998 are required to begin production. Derek Bowers, who heads American Tire Corporation's engineering, says this new and unique tire which is designed to operate in many ways similar to a belted hoop found in a radial passenger tire but without the belt will have rolling qualities substantially equal to a pneumatic tire. Derek says this is really a unique and significant technical advance in non-pneumatic foam bicycle tires. Roger Fleming says patents are now being filed on this product. The new financing packages to support the move from a pre-production company to production of this new technically advanced product will start becoming available in May of 1998.
