Donnelly Corporation Names Senior Vice President Of Global Manufacturing OperationsHOLLAND, Mich., April 21 -- Russell B. Scaffede has been named senior vice president of global manufacturing operations, Donnelly Corporation announced today. In this newly created position, Scaffede will be responsible for implementing lean manufacturing processes throughout Donnelly's worldwide operations. In addition to his new responsibilities, Scaffede will continue to be directly responsible for Donnelly's North American manufacturing operations. "Like all world-class automotive suppliers, Donnelly needs to have consistent, robust manufacturing processes in place in all its locations," said Dwane Baumgardner, chairman and chief executive officer. "Russ has extensive experience in lean manufacturing processes, and has been instrumental in the highly successful implementation of lean manufacturing techniques in our North American operations. Now those same techniques will be adapted to our European and emerging market locations, further strengthening Donnelly's ability to serve our customers around the world." Scaffede, 48, joined Donnelly as vice president of manufacturing in October 1995. Before joining Donnelly, Scaffede worked as vice president (powertrain) at Toyota Motor Manufacturing U.S.A., Inc. (TMM), where he developed a high level of expertise in lean manufacturing. In the late 1980s, Scaffede played a key role in the start-up of TMM, which successfully integrated the Toyota Production System with an American workforce. Prior to joining Toyota, Scaffede worked for 18 years in a variety of manufacturing positions at General Motors Corporation. He has also worked as a consultant with several U.S. corporations to develop lean manufacturing systems. A native of Fenton, Michigan, Scaffede has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Saginaw Valley College and a master's degree in management and supervision from Central Michigan University.
