ITT Automotive Wins Electronic Stability Program Contract From Toyota

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 20 -- ITT Automotive, a unit of
ITT Industries, Inc. , announced today that Toyota Motor
Manufacturing N. A. has awarded it a contract to supply the Electronic
Stability Program (ESP) for a future generation Toyota vehicle beginning in
the 2001 model year.
    The award is among recent North American contracts with an annual value of
more than $500 million that ITT Automotive has received for brake and chassis
systems in model year 1998 and later vehicles.  ITT Automotive also supplies
global automakers with a proven line of advanced electrical systems and other
components.
    ITT Automotive's Electronic Stability Program senses the onset of a skid
and selectively applies any of the vehicle's individual brakes and adjusts
engine torque controls to help the driver retain control and stability.
