Hayes Lemmerz International Breaks Ground On $20 Million World Headquarters in Northville, MichiganROMULUS, Mich., April 15 -- Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. , the world's leading full-line supplier of wheels and brake components to the automotive and commercial highway industries announced today that it has broken ground on its new world headquarters building in Northville Township, Michigan. The $20 million building will house the company's corporate offices, as well as a state-of-the-art 65,000 square foot research and development facility. Approximately 250 employees will be relocated from the company's existing headquarters in Romulus, Michigan, to the Northville facility, which is located near the intersection of 5 Mile and Beck Roads, in close proximity to both M-14 and I-275. "The proximity of this site was definitely a factor in our decision," said Larry Karenko, vice president, human resources. "We want to be close to our key customers, and we also want to be conveniently located for our employees. By putting all of our research and development operations under one roof, this new facility will be a showcase of our world-class design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities." "Equally important, we are pleased at the prospect of remaining in Wayne County, where we've been located for approximately 90 years. We look forward to becoming an active member in the Northville community by continuing our tradition of good corporate citizenship." Construction of the 155,000 square-foot facility is expected to be completed in early 1999. Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc., with annual sales of over $1.5 billion, is a world leader in the design, engineering and manufacture of steel and aluminum wheels and brake drums and rotors for the automotive and commercial highway markets in North America, Europe and Asia.
