Kentucky Suppliers Earn Awards From ToyotaERLANGER, Ky., April 9 -- NHK-Associated Spring Suspension Components, Inc., a coil springs supplier located in Bowling Green, Ky., won two Superior Awards from Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TMMNA) for value improvement and export quality. The Superior Awards, the highest recognition possible for a Toyota supplier, were awarded at TMMNA's annual Supplier Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony tonight in Cincinnati. In addition to NHK, two other Kentucky parts and materials suppliers earned Superior Awards. They are: AK Steel Corporation, located in Ashland and producing sheet steel; and Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc., located in Morgantown and Scottsville and producing wire harnesses. AK Steel also won an Excellent award for the fourth consecutive year. In addition to the three Kentucky Superior Award winners, 10 Kentucky suppliers received Excellent Awards: AK Steel Corporation of Ashland; AP Technoglass Co. of Elizabethtown; Central Manufacturing Company of Paris; Johnson Controls, Inc. Automotive Systems Group of Georgetown; Lexington Cartage Company of Lexington; Louisville Forge and Gear Works of Georgetown; Ryder Integrated Logistics, Inc. of Georgetown; Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems of Morgantown and Scottsville; Trim Masters, Inc. of Nicholasville and Bardstown; and Vascor, Ltd. of Georgetown. "Toyota demands a superior commitment to quality and performance from all our suppliers," said Noriyuki Yokouchi, Vice President of Purchasing for TMMNA. "Our outstanding Kentucky suppliers have helped us earn a reputation for producing the finest cars built in America." TMMNA has more than 50 parts and materials suppliers in Kentucky, and approximately 500 across North America. Each year, Toyota purchases more than $7 billion worth of parts and materials from North American suppliers. TMMNA, which supports North American manufacturing operations, is located in the Greater Cincinnati area in Erlanger, Ky. Toyota currently manufactures vehicles at three North American plants located in Georgetown, Ky.; Fremont, Calif.; and Cambridge, Ontario. In addition, a fourth vehicle plant in Princeton, Ind., will open in 1998, and a new engine plant is currently under construction in Buffalo, W. Va. Overall, 12 North American parts and materials suppliers won Superior Awards, 33 won Excellent Awards and many received Certificates of Achievement.
