50th Anniversary Land Rovers Make U.S. Debut at New York Auto ShowNEW YORK, April 9 -- Land Rover North America, Inc. will unveil to the public limited-edition models of Discovery and Range Rover on the opening day of the New York Auto Show. The two unique vehicles were designed in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the first Land Rover. Charles R. Hughes, President, Land Rover North America, Inc., said, "Land Rover has covered a lot of ground since the brand was introduced at the Amsterdam Motor Show on April 30, 1948. We are proud of that achievement and proud to offer these very distinctive vehicles. Our customers have shown interest in limited-edition models and we believe 50th Anniversary Discoverys and Range Rovers will meet their high expectations. These are great looking vehicles and a fitting testament to the heritage of the Best 4X4 X Far." The 1998 Range Rover 4.0 SE 50th Anniversary Edition sports Woodcote Green paint that adds a golden translucence to the exterior finish, perfect for Land Rover's golden anniversary. Walnut leather interior trim with Lightstone piping, plus Lightstone carpets and door trim are also featured. The vehicle sports special 18-inch "Proline" wheels, 255/55R18 Michelin mud-and-snow tires, and color-keyed mirrors and front spoiler. The MSRP on the 275 U.S. specification vehicles are $59,300. The Range Rover was originally introduced in 1970 and is considered by most to be the vehicle that created the luxury sport-utility segment. Today, Range Rover is as technologically advanced as it is luxurious. Featuring an advanced air suspension, permanent four-wheel drive, a strong V-8 engine, traction control and a center viscous coupling, Range Rover offers the unique combination of Land Rover's legendary off-road ability and a European performance sedan. Land Rover will also offer 500 50th Anniversary Edition Discoverys, also in Woodcote Green, featuring a Bahama Beige interior with Lightstone piping and TWR five-spoke sparkle-finish alloy wheels. It too includes the harman/kardon audio system among all the comfort and convenience features of that model. Pricing has been set at $39,000. Discovery was introduced in Europe in 1989 as the vehicle for Land Rover families. It was updated in 1994 and exported to the North American market as the first sport-utility vehicle to feature dual airbags. Today, Discovery remains an outstanding value in its segment, with a long list of standard equipment that includes a V8 engine, automatic transmission, permanent four-wheel drive, leather interior trim, dual sunroofs and Land Rover's legendary go-anywhere ability.
