Suzuki's All-New 2.0-Liter Engine Offers Additional Power And Performance for Two- and Four-Door VitaraNEW YORK, April 8 -- Suzuki today introduced the Vitara line at the New York International Automobile Show. With its already dynamic styling, refined interior and precise handling, the Vitara package is even more complete with the addition of Suzuki's all-new 2.0-liter, 16-valve, DOHC engine. Standard on the four-door Vitara and available on the two-door soft-top, the new 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine generates an efficient 127 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 134 lb.-ft. torque @ 3,000 rpm and features an in-line mounted design that provides the best possible weight distribution for superb off-road handling. Providing substantial power and performance, this newly-developed powerplant has an all-aluminum lower crankcase, cylinder block, cylinder head and head cover, making it low weight with excellent low- to mid-range torque. To ensure engine rigidity, the crankcase features additional casting thickness and a crank bearing cap is utilized to minimize any vibration. In addition to its low weight, the Vitara's new, well-balanced 2.0-liter engine has a Direct Drive Valvetrain (DDV) that reduces mechanical loss with the cams operating directly upon the hydraulic valve lifters which releases additional power and provides quicker response throughout the rev range while contributing to lower fuel consumption. Optimum combustion efficiency is ensured through the use of an Electronic Multi-Point Injection System and a 16-bit microprocessor that monitors all aspects of engine management. Vibration and noise are suppressed through a combination of both body-to- frame and hydraulic engine mounts. The aluminum alloy crankcase provides lighter weight and increased rigidity for both the engine and the transmission, thereby reducing vibration and noise.
