JD Power Chairman's Award to Ford

J.D. Power III Presents Ford Motor Company, UAW-Ford With J.D. Power and Associates Chairman's Award

    NEW YORK, April 6 -- J.D. Power III, chairman and founder of
J.D. Power and Associates, presented Ford Motor Company and UAW-Ford with a
Chairman's Award for their cooperative efforts in improving vehicle quality at
a dinner tonight at the Pierre Hotel in conjunction with the 1998 New York
Auto Show.  The dinner was sponsored by J.D. Power and Associates, The Greater
New York Automobile Dealers Association, and Morgan Stanley & Co.
    Alex Trotman, chairman and chief executive officer of Ford Motor Company,
and Stephen P. Yokich, president of the UAW, accepted the award.  The award
recognizes both Ford Motor Company's and UAW-Ford's cooperative and collective
efforts to improve vehicle quality-as well as the resulting improvements-based
on recent customer evaluations of Ford vehicles in various J.D. Power and
Associates nationwide studies.  This is the first Chairman's Award presented
by J.D. Power III to officially recognize both labor and management's
cooperative efforts.
    "I have had the opportunity to view first-hand the lengths these two
entities have gone to in working together to improve the quality of the
vehicles they produce," Mr. Power commented. "We commend them for the
resulting improvements in vehicle quality as well as for their cooperative
efforts. It is only through these types of working relationships that the
industry will be able to meet and exceed rising customer expectations."
