EG&G Appoints President of Technical Services SegmentWELLESLEY, Mass., April 6, -- EG&G, Inc. has announced that Retired Air Force General Hansford T. (H.T.) Johnson has been appointed President of its Technical Services business segment and will be elected a Vice President of the Corporation. Johnson will report to Gregory L. Summe, EG&G President and Chief Operating Officer. Technical Services, the largest EG&G business segment, with 1997 sales of $600 million, supplies management, engineering, scientific, technical and operations support services to government agencies and to industrial customers. In addition to managing wide-ranging government contracts, such as base operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Technical Services provides testing services to U.S. and overseas automakers and manages the military's largest privatization effort. Johnson's impressive background and credentials will help on two fronts: he will immediately strengthen this segment's business development efforts and drive the business to a higher performance level." Johnson will manage EG&G's Corporate office in Washington D.C. Johnson was appointed by Presidents Bush and Clinton to the 1993 Base Closure Commission. When Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, was realigned by the 1995 Base Closure Commission, he was appointed to chair the Board of Directors of the Greater Kelly Development Corporation. GKDC is responsible for leading the closing and transformation of the $7.5 billion Air Force Logistics Center with a workforce of 19,000 into a thriving industrial park. EG&G Appoints President Of Technical Services Segment Most recently, Johnson served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Credit Union National Association, where he provided strategic direction and planning. CUNA represents America's 12,000 credit unions, which are owned by 73 million consumers. After completing 33 years of active military duty in 1993, he joined USAA Capital Corporation; he was President, CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board. Johnson was responsible for overseeing USAA's investment and debt portfolios and providing products and services outside the insurance arena. Johnson was a career Air Force Officer and retired as a four star General. Among his notable assignments, he was Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Transportation Command and Military Airlift Command during DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM. He led Strategic Air Command operations in 1985 and had three Pentagon tours of duty. During his last Pentagon assignment, Johnson served as Admiral William Crowe's director of the Joint Staff, Joint Chiefs of Staff. Johnson attended Clemson College and was the outstanding graduate in thermodynamics and aerodynamics in the first class of the U.S. Air Force Academy. (In 1989, he became the first graduate of the Academy to be promoted to four star General). He received an M.S. degree in Aeronautics from Stanford and an MBA from the University of Colorado. He later completed the Advanced Management Program at Dartmouth. Johnson will lead EG&G Technical Services; the Company's other business segments are: Instruments, Mechanical Components, and Optoelectronics.
