Chrysler/C.A.W. Announce Addition of Third Shift At Bramalea (Ontario) Assembly Plant

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 3 -- Chrysler Canada Ltd. and the
Canadian Auto Workers (C.A.W.) today announced that the Company will add a
third production shift at the Bramalea Assembly Plant in Brampton, Ontario
(suburban Toronto). Third shift production is scheduled to begin July,
1998.
Bramalea Assembly produces the recently introduced all-new 1998 Chrysler
Concorde and Dodge Intrepid (Chrysler Intrepid in Canada). The Corporation
also announced today that production of the all-new 1999 Chrysler LHS sedan
will begin April 6 and for the all-new 1999 Chrysler 300M on April 20 at the
Bramalea facility.
"This is fantastic news for the union, Chrysler, the Toronto metropolitan
region and, most important, our customers who are eager to get their hands on
these popular new products," said Othmar Stein, Vice President - Public
Affairs, Chrysler Canada Ltd.
Introduction of a third shift will increase capacity at the plant by
70,000 units, allowing for annual capacity of 350,000 units a year at full
production. The plant will add approximately 1,000 workers to operate three
shifts. Due to the large number of applications currently on file, the
majority of the positions will be accommodated from the existing application
bank. The remaining requirements will be advertised accordingly.
The implementation of a third shift at Bramalea was part of a special
provision in the collective bargaining agreement that was ratified by Chrysler
Bramalea hourly employees on March 26, 1995.
Bramalea is currently building approximately 1,088 Concordes and Intrepids
daily with plant employment at approximately 3,800.
