Dura Automotive Systems, Inc. Completes Offering of $50 Million Convertible Trust Preferred Securities

     MINNEAPOLIS, March 20 -- Dura Automotive Systems, Inc.
, today announced the public offering by Dura Automotive Systems
Capital Trust, a Delaware statutory business trust, of $50 million of 7+
percent Convertible Trust Preferred Securities.  Dura Automotive Systems
Capital Trust was formed by Dura Automotive Systems, Inc. for the sole purpose
of issuing the Preferred Securities.  The Preferred Securities are redeemable,
in whole or in part, on or after March 31, 2001.  All outstanding Preferred
Securities must be redeemed no later than March 31, 2028.  The Preferred
Securities are convertible at the option of the holder into Dura Automotive
Systems, Inc. Class A Common Stock at a rate of 0.5831 shares of Class A
Common Stock for each Preferred Security (equivalent to a conversion price of
$42 7/8 per share).  The Preferred Securities are listed on the Nasdaq
National Market under the symbol DRRAP.  The proceeds from the offering will
be used by Dura Automotive Systems, Inc. to repay a portion of its bank credit
facility.  The managing underwriters for the offering were Robert W. Baird &
Co. Incorporated and Piper Jaffray Inc.
     Dura Automotive Systems, Inc., is a leading designer and manufacturer of
driver control systems, engineered mechanical components and cable-related
systems for the global automotive industry.  The company's products include
parking brake systems, automotive cables, transmission shifter systems,
latches, underbody tire carriers, jacks, brake, clutch and accelerator pedals

North American original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), including Ford,
