Meritor Automotive Appoints Byass Vice President And General Manager Door Systems Business

    TROY, Mich., March 20 -- Meritor Automotive Inc. ,
today announced the appointment of William R. Byass to vice president and
general manager of  Door Systems for Meritor's Light Vehicle Systems (LVS)
business.  In this position, Byass will report to Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer Larry D. Yost, acting president of LVS.
    In his new role, Byass will focus on developing and implementing
strategies to expand the global Door Systems business that supports Meritor's
long-term business growth objectives, with a sharpened focus on developing new
business opportunities, enhancing customer satisfaction and introducing new
products and services that provide OEM customers added functionality and
reduced production costs.
    With more than 20 years of combined automotive management experience with
Meritor and Rockwell International, Byass has held a number of management
positions in sales and engineering.  Most recently, he served as managing
director, LVS, Asia/Pacific, based in Melbourne, Australia.  Byass has led
strategies for LVS operations in the Asia/Pacific region since 1989.  He will
be based at the Door Systems Center of Expertise in Sully sur Loire, France.
    Byass replaces Ted Fuhrer who was recently appointed vice president and
general manager of the General Aviation division of Rockwell International.

of a broad range of components and systems for commercial, specialty and light
vehicles.  Meritor consists of two businesses:  Heavy Vehicle Systems, a
leading supplier of drivetrain systems and components for medium- and heavy-

including military, bus and coach, and fire and rescue; and Light Vehicle
Systems, a major supplier of roof, door, access control and seat adjusting
systems, electric motors and electronic controls, suspension systems and
