Autoliv Expands in KoreaSTOCKHOLM, March 19 -- Autoliv Inc. (SSE: ALIV), a worldwide leader in automotive safety, has established a branch office in Seoul to coordinate the Company's expanding business with Korean auto manufacturers. During the last year, Autoliv has secured contracts from four vehicle producers in Korea. As a consequence, Autoliv will rapidly grow its currently modest business in Korea and become a major automotive safety system supplier to this market. Initially, the Autoliv Korean Branch Office will consist of five engineers, all of whom have worked for automotive manufacturers in the past. The office and the Korean activities at other Autoliv locations are coordinated by Tae Kwak, President of Autoliv Inc. Korean Branch Office. Mr. Kwak worked for Autoliv in the United States, as well as for Ford and Nissan. With an annual production last year of 2.8 million vehicles, Korea is the fifth largest car-producing country in the world. Although production is predicted to decline this year, airbag installation rates are increasing sharply, and consequently the airbag market. In addition, car production capacity is anticipated to increase significantly by the year 2000. Autoliv Inc. develops and manufactures automotive safety systems for all major automotive manufacturers in the world. The company has close to 60 wholly-owned subsidiaries and joint ventures with 17,000 employees in 27 vehicle-producing countries. In addition, the company has eight technical centers around the world, including 19 test tracks, more than any other automotive safety supplier.
