Kevin Backus Appointed Director, Powertrain Systems Center For Process Excellence

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 16 -- Alan C. Johnson, executive
vice president, powertrain systems, announces the appointment of Kevin M.
Backus to the position of director, powertrain systems center for process
excellence, effective immediately.  Backus will report to Johnson.
    "The powertrain systems center for process excellence is dedicated to
promoting the philosophies of Federal-Mogul's signature constraint management
and lean operations throughout the powertrain systems organization," said
Johnson.  "The center will focus on the development and implementation of
leading edge techniques in order to help our operations be the world class
standard other organizations measure themselves against."
    Prior to this appointment, Backus held the position of director,
aftermarket sourcing.  He has also served as director, global supplier
development and was a reengineering manager.  Backus joined Federal-Mogul in
June 1982 at the Van Wert, Ohio manufacturing facility where he held various
management positions in accounting, materials and operations management.
    Backus earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Ohio State
University.
