TRW Air Bag Operations Receive Chrysler's Coveted Pentastar Award

WASHINGTON, Mich., March 12 -- Chrysler Corp. this
afternoon presented TRW's Mesa, Ariz. driver-side air bag
operations with its coveted Gold Pentastar award during a ceremony at TRW's
Germann Road module facility.
Both TRW's driver- and passenger-side operations are receiving Chrysler's
Pentastar award this month for the first time ever, noted Stephen Morrey, the
Mesa-based vice president of operations for Inflatable Restraint Systems at
TRW.
"We salute all 3,500 TRW employees in our Higley and Germann Road
operations for their roles in winning these awards," Morrey said. "For the
first time ever, Chrysler is recognizing TRW for our driver and passenger air
bag module operations, as well as our related air bag propellant, inflator and
other processes. We are proud of our people and the standard of excellence
they provide in manufacturing and customer responsiveness."
Chuck Surma, Chrysler purchasing supervisor, Interior Quality and Supplier
Management, Procurement and Supply, said Chrysler's Gold Pentastar award is
based on combined quality, delivery and warranty ratings at the plant level.
Surma said the awards to TRW are representative of the important role of TRW
as an integral part of Chrysler's Extended Enterprise(TM).
"We are pleased to present TRW this award for meeting our high quality,
delivery and warranty standards," Surma said. "We congratulate TRW as a
first-time winner in its air bag operations and challenge them to maintain
this success."
At today's celebration, Ed Peno, plant manager for TRW's Mesa driver-side
operations congratulated everyone in the driver- as well as the passenger-side
air bag operations on their achievements.
"This recognition demonstrates the strengthening of our tier one supplier
relationship with Chrysler," Peno said. "We appreciate your efforts and your
commitment to safe, efficient and customer-focused operations."
A separate ceremony at the company's Cookeville, Tenn. passenger-side air
bag module facility will be scheduled in the future. Richard Stanley, plant
manager for TRW's passenger-side air bag operations in Mesa said Cookeville
employees sent their appreciation for the "shared success." "They couldn't
have done it without you," Stanley emphasized.
TRW is the world's largest supplier of occupant restraint systems,
producing more than 18 million air bags in 1997.
