Nissan Names Corporate Communications V.P.; Jason Vines of Chrysler Gets the NodTORRANCE, Calif., March 9 -- Nissan North America, Inc. today announced the appointment of Jason Vines to vice president, corporate communications, effective April 1. Vines, a 15-year veteran of Chrysler Corporation, will oversee all corporate communications activities for Nissan's North American operations. "The appointment of Jason Vines is part of our ongoing strategy to strengthen Nissan's North American management team," said Minoru Nakamura, president and chairman of the board of Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) and president of Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A. (NMC). "Jason brings considerable automotive communications experience to our organization, which he has gained from working with one of the world's leading automotive companies. His broad base of expertise will complement our current structure, while bringing fresh perspective and insight into this important role." Vines will head a staff of 23 and report directly to Nakamura. Along with directing all aspects of the communications function, his responsibilities will include interaction with, and counsel to, senior NNA and subsidiary management, including liaison with the parent company, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. He also will provide periodic counsel to the Board of Directors of NNA. A key responsibility will be to provide marketing communications support to NMC, the sales, marketing and distribution arm of Nissan's operations in the United States. In his tenure with Chrysler, Vines held a variety of positions within the company's communications department, including both internal and external communications posts. From 1993 to 1996, he was based in Washington, D.C. and was on loan to the American Automobile Manufacturers Association for two years as a key advisor to its president and CEO. In his third year, he acted as Chrysler's public affairs director focusing on environmental, trade and economic issues. Following his Washington, D.C. stint, he directed the media launch of all Chrysler passenger cars, including the 1996 Dodge Viper GTS, the 1997 Plymouth Prowler and the 1998 Chrysler Concorde and Dodge Intrepid, and was responsible for the company's corporate safety and environmental issues. Most recently, Vines was part of a team which managed Chrysler's worldwide product and technologies public relations activities and oversaw the integration of its corporate communications efforts in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the Asia/Pacific region. A graduate of Central University of Iowa, Vines has a master's degree in labor and industrial relations from Michigan State University. Vines is married and has three children.
