Detroit Public Schools Reports Local Car Dealer Drives Financial Support To Boynton Middle School

DETROIT, March 4 -- Detroit Public Schools reports that
Tarik Daoud, president and owner of Al Long Ford in Warren, Michigan and the
owner of Shamrock Ford, Lincoln-Mercury in Clinton, Michigan will present
$5,000 to Francis S. Boynton Middle School during a special ceremony on
Thursday, March 5, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the school's library. The school is
located at 12800 Visger Road.
The generous donation will be used to purchase new books for the school's
library/information center which has undergone extensive changes during this
school year. Other changes include the hiring of a certified librarian and
the addition of fourteen IBM computers for student, staff and community use.
The school's goal is two-fold: to develop the computer skills and to enhance
the community's research ability.
According to Boynton Principal Ronald Peart, "With these research tools
available to our students and staff, we are able to give instruction which
increases our students' knowledge base of information gathering. Our library
will continue to grow to become a major source of information for students and
community."
Daoud, who was born in Iraq, came to the United States in 1956 to attend
the Detroit Institute of Technology. He is involved with numerous civic,
business and charitable works and has been the recipient of many prestigious
awards both locally and nationally.
He says, "Two years ago Al Long Ford, Inc. set up a fund to support
programs within the Detroit Public School System. Fifty dollars from each
Detroiter's purchase is set aside to support a program chosen by Mr. Daoud.
The $5,000 given to Boynton School to purchase books for their library is
granted with pleasure to support the needs of Detroit's children."
Moreover, Al Ford employees have established a college fund for African-
American students from Denby, Osborne and Finney High Schools.
During tomorrow's festivities, Mr. Daoud will be acknowledged by School
Board Member Juan Jose Martinez. Boynton serves nearly 800 students in grades
kindergarten through eight.
