General Bearing Earns Prestigious QS-9000 CertificationShanghai General Bearing Company, Shanghai, China, Earns IS0 9002 Certification WEST NYACK, N.Y., March 4 -- General Bearing Corporation today announced that its West Nyack operations and manufacturing headquarters has achieved certification to the prestigious Quality Assurance standard QS-9000 and the international standard ISO9001. It also announced that Shanghai General Bearing Company, its joint venture in Shanghai, China, achieved certification to the international standard ISO9002. Shanghai General Bearing is one of the few bearing manufacturers in China to have achieved this recognition. QS9000 is a quality standard that was jointly developed in 1994 by Chrysler, Ford and General Motors to harmonize fundamental quality system expectations for automotive industry suppliers. ISO9000 standards were developed and copyrighted by the International Organization for Standardization. They are used worldwide and are the most recognized and required quality systems in industry today. General Bearing President David Gussack said: "We are extremely pleased to have been admitted into the select circle of auto industry suppliers with the proven capabilities of meeting the strict automotive qualifications. The QS9000 standard quality system provides for a goal of continuous improvement, emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation." Additionally, General Bearing Corporation's West Nyack facility has been recertified to the Association of American Railroads M1003 quality standard for its Tapered Journal Roller Bearings for the railroad industry. The AAR's Quality Assurance Committee has determined that M1003 certification is equivalent to the requirements of ISO9001. This certification was received on December 19, 1997 and is a continuation of the original certification received July 1, 1994. General Bearing manufactures, sources, assembles and distributes a variety of bearing components and products. The Company manufactures ball bearings, tapered roller bearings, spherical roller bearings and cylindrical roller bearings.
