Shanghai General Bearing Company, Shanghai, China,
                         Earns IS0 9002 Certification

WEST NYACK, N.Y., March 4 -- General Bearing Corporation
today announced that its West Nyack operations and
manufacturing headquarters has achieved certification to the prestigious
Quality Assurance standard QS-9000 and the international standard ISO9001. It
also announced that Shanghai General Bearing Company, its joint venture in
Shanghai, China, achieved certification to the international standard ISO9002.
Shanghai General Bearing is one of the few bearing manufacturers in China to
have achieved this recognition.
QS9000 is a quality standard that was jointly developed in 1994 by
Chrysler, Ford and General Motors to harmonize fundamental quality system
expectations for automotive industry suppliers.
ISO9000 standards were developed and copyrighted by the International
Organization for Standardization. They are used worldwide and are the most
recognized and required quality systems in industry today.
General Bearing President David Gussack said: "We are extremely pleased to
have been admitted into the select circle of auto industry suppliers with the
proven capabilities of meeting the strict automotive qualifications. The
QS9000 standard quality system provides for a goal of continuous improvement,
emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation."
Additionally, General Bearing Corporation's West Nyack facility has been
recertified to the Association of American Railroads M1003 quality standard
for its Tapered Journal Roller Bearings for the railroad industry. The AAR's
Quality Assurance Committee has determined that M1003 certification is
equivalent to the requirements of ISO9001. This certification was received on
December 19, 1997 and is a continuation of the original certification received
July 1, 1994.
