Delco Remy America Named 1998 PACE Awards Semi-Finalist

ANDERSON, Ind., Feb. 27 -- Delco Remy America, Inc.,
was honored as a semi-finalist in the 1998 PACE (Premier Automotive suppliers'
Contribution to Excellence) Awards program by Ernst & Young LLP and Automotive
News. The PACE Awards recognize standout automotive suppliers who have
excelled in adapting and reinventing their companies or their products to meet
the growing service and quality demands of their customers -- the world's
major automotive manufacturers.
This is the first year the PACE Awards program has awarded the semi-
finalist status, which recognizes exceptional contributions to the automotive
industry. The awards ceremony was held Sunday, February 22 at the Henry Ford
Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Vice President of Sales and Marketing for
Automotive Systems Division Robert Lawson and Executive Director of
Manufacturing Engineering Terry Pahls accepted the award on behalf of DRA
employees.
"It is an honor to be part of this distinguished group of semi-finalists
for the 1998 PACE Awards," Lawson said. "The people who work for Delco Remy
America deserve this recognition. Their ingenuity, hard work and dedicated
efforts have delivered unprecedented levels of value to our customers and,
ultimately, the automotive consumer."
DRA was honored for its reinvention of the business, which addresses a
crucial issue in the automotive industry today. DRA has reinvented the
company to be a world-class supplier and technological leader. PACE Award
information stated that "...in only three years, DRA has achieved a dramatic
turnaround that has made it a vibrant, growing, innovative leader."
"Everyone at DRA can take pride in our many accomplishments over the past
three years," Pahls stated. "We have seen our parent company, Delco Remy
International, Inc., go from a privately held corporation to a publicly traded
company on the New York Stock Exchange. We have established a new
headquarters, five new manufacturing plants, a test facility and warranty
laboratory in Anderson and have recently announced plans for a sixth plant.
Through our employees' efforts, each new facility has achieved QS 9000
certification within six months of opening, and we have introduced seven new
and exciting products to the market."
For the fourth consecutive year, Automotive News and Ernst & Young co-
sponsored this annual awards program dedicated to promoting product,
manufacturing and service achievement by automotive suppliers of all sizes.
DRA provides the North American O.E.M.s and aftermarket with
automotive/light-duty truck starting motors and heavy-duty starters and
alternators. Delco Remy International was listed in a public stock offering
by the New York Stock Exchange in December 1997.
