Honda Motor Company's Nobuhiko Kawamoto Named Automotive Industries' Executive of the YearRADNOR, Penn., Feb. 25 -- Nobuhiko Kawamoto, Honda Motor Company's president and chief executive officer, has been chosen Automotive Industries' Executive of the Year for 1998. The award is given to automotive industry executives who have made a great impact on the auto industry. "Kawamoto's theory of co-evolution is the heart and soul of Honda," says Marjorie Sorge, editor-in-chief of Automotive Industries. "It is his commitment to local communities and the environment that has made Honda a more globally autonomous operation and a leader in the industry today." AI's editors chose Kawamoto because he has led Honda through a series of strategic changes that have been instrumental to its success. Under Kawamoto's direction, the changes have led to a more efficient company that has produced a series of successful new vehicles and a record fiscal year in 1997. Kawamoto joined Honda in 1963, following his graduation from Tohoku University, with a Masters of Science degree in mechanical engineering.
