SPX Corporation Names Drew T. Ladau an Officer

    MUSKEGON, Mich., Feb. 23 -- SPX Corporation today
announced the election of Drew T. Ladau as an office of the company.
    He will be responsible for identifying, analyzing and recommending
opportunities for profitable growth through expansion of existing SPX
businesses, and through external opportunities for mergers, acquisitions,
joint ventures, or divestitures.  Mr. Ladau, who is 36, will report to John B.
Blystone, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.
    Mr. Ladau began his business career in 1981 when he joined the General
Electric Manufacturing Management Program.  In 1983, he was assigned to the GE
Appliance Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Group where he held several
positions, including Program Manager responsible for implementation of
electric range and microwave oven product plans.
    In 1989, he joined the Case Corporation in Racine, Wisconsin, where he
held positions as Manager, Engine Operations for the Parts and Components
Group; Product Director of the Construction Equipment Group; and Director,
Business Development for the Corporate Manufacturing and Quality Group.
    Mr. Ladau returned to General Electric in 1992 at GE Superabrasives, where
he held positions of Marketing Manager and Manager of Business Development.
Since 1995 he has been General Manager of Black and Decker Corporation's
Emhart Powers Division, a global supplier of inspection equipment to the glass
container industry.
    He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Masters in Business
Administration from the Harvard Business School.

motor vehicle service industry.
