Dana Unit Named Finalist For PACE AwardTOLEDO, Ohio, Feb. 23 -- The Plumley Division of Dana Corporation was named one of 14 finalists for the 1998 PACE Award during a ceremony Sunday night in conjunction with the start of the 1998 Society of Automotive Engineers International Congress and Exposition. The Plumley Division's Paris, Tenn., extrusion plant was recognized for an innovative manufacturing technique, which eliminates three steps in the production of extruded rubber hose requiring a prescribed shape. Using this method, more than 30 hoses can now be produced in the time it previously took to cut one hose. The technique also produces a consistent hose from run to run, significantly reducing scrap while eliminating the need to produce and replace pins that were previously used to create the hoses' shape. Co-sponsored by Automotive News and Ernst & Young LLP, the PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contribution to Excellence) Awards recognize product, manufacturing, and service achievements of automotive suppliers of all sizes. Dana's Spicer Driveshaft and Transmission divisions are previous recipients of the award, which was first presented in 1995. Additionally, Dana's Parish Light Vehicle Structures Division was twice honored as a finalist and the Spicer Heavy Axle and Brake Division was named a finalist in 1996. Part of Dana's Engine Components Group, the Plumley Division is a leading manufacturer of engineered sealing systems, powertrain plastics, air-induction systems, fuel hose assemblies, and molded rubber products. Dana Corporation is a global leader in the engineering, manufacture, and distribution of products and services for the automotive, engine, heavy truck, off-highway, industrial, and leasing markets.
