Infiniti Offers Cell Phone Docking Stations For Its Vehicles

CARSON, Calif. Feb. 19 -- Infiniti, maker of luxury vehicles,
today announced the availability of a Cellular Phone Docking Station for all
of its vehicles(1), which will give customers a more flexible and safer
cellular phone conversation.
This high performance, in-car, hands-free speakerphone system is used in
conjunction with the Motorola(2) MicroTac(R) portable cellular telephone to
create a convenient, hands-free speakerphone system.
The docking station consists of four components -- a permanently installed
cellular phone housing unit, a remote steering wheel mounted switch, an
external microphone and speaker mounted in the vehicle and an external mounted
antenna -- to enable the hands-free operation. The docking station is
permanently installed, concealed in the vehicle's center console or the glove
box for a stationary application.
The wireless remote pad is mounted on the steering wheel or other location
of choice. The keypad features six different functions, including two
switches that allow the user to scroll up or down a list of 10 speed dial
numbers (programmable voice tags are announced to identify each memory
location), two additional buttons control volume, up or down, while the
remaining two are used to send and end a call.
On incoming calls, the audio system is automatically muted enabling the
driver to hear the ring. On outgoing calls, the driver simply presses the
scroll button on the wireless keypad and listens for the voice tag naming the
party they wish to dial. Once the name is identified, the caller simply
presses "send" on the keypad to initiate the call. If the driver chooses to
hold a private conversation, the phone may be used in the Docking Station and
the phone will continue to hold the system's antenna connection for enhanced
performance.
The Infiniti Cellular Phone Docking Station also has a 3 watt booster
amplifier. The amplifier converts a portable cellular telephone signal from a
.6 watt phone to a 3 watt mobile phone, the maximum legal power for cellular
telephones. This, along with the external mounted antenna, aids crisp, clear
conversations.
    Additional features and conveniences include:

    * The docking station uses the vehicle's battery, saving cellular phone
battery energy.
    * Voice tag feature automatically announces an easily identifiable name
(attached to a speed dial location) before pressing "send" and a confirmation
after "send" is depressed.
    * Optional pre-programming of 911 enables the driver to easily summon help
if needed.
