AMETEK Names Richard Patterson as Vice President and General Manager Of Its Aerospace Division

    PAOLI, Pa., Feb. 16 -- AMETEK Inc. today
announced that it has promoted G. Richard Patterson to vice president and
general manager of its Aerospace Division, effective immediately.  Mr.
Patterson had been divisional vice president-marketing and has served as
acting general manager since June 1997.  He continues to report to
Robert W. Chlebek, president of AMETEK's Electronic Instruments Group.
    "We are pleased to announce the promotion of Dick Patterson, who brings a
wealth of experience to his new position, including more than 25 years with
our aerospace business," said Frank S. Hermance, AMETEK president and chief
operating officer.  "Dick's promotion reflects his many contributions to
AMETEK Aerospace, including the valued leadership he has provided the division
since the retirement of Robert Harris last year."
    Mr. Patterson joined AMETEK in 1971 as chief engineer for aerospace
products at its U.S. Gauge Division and was named director of aerospace
products in 1976 with responsibility for engineering and marketing.  He became
a divisional vice president at U.S. Gauge in 1978 and added responsibility for
manufacturing and quality control of its aerospace products.  Mr. Patterson
joined AMETEK's Aerospace Division as a division vice president in 1993.  He
holds a bachelor of science degree in engineering physics from Lehigh
University.

and displays, engine and aircraft monitoring systems, data acquisition units,
and fuel and fluid measurement systems with operations in Wilmington, Mass.;
Binghamton, N.Y.; Sellersville, Pa.; and Seattle, Wash.
    AMETEK Aerospace is part of the Electronic Instruments Group, which
manufactures sensing, calibrating and display devices for the aerospace,
process, and heavy-vehicle industries and had sales approaching $400 million
in 1997.
