Honda Low Emission Vehicle Sales Top 130,000TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 11 -- Sales of Honda low and ultra low emission vehicles (LEV, ULEV) topped 130,000 units during the first four months of the 1998 model year, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. Honda began voluntary sales in all 50 states of 1998 Accord and Civic models meeting California's LEV standards at the start of the 1998 model year. Honda expects to sell more than 450,000 Civics and Accords meeting the low emission standards by the end of the model year. "The sales of these 130,000 vehicles are already having an impact," said Tom Elliott, American Honda Executive Vice President. "Those vehicles alone have the potential to reduce smog producing emissions up to an estimated 10 million pounds during their lifetime." "More than half of all the vehicles we sell during the '98 model year, about 450,000 vehicles, will be equipped with advanced low emission technology," Elliott added. "Obviously we support the National Low Emission Vehicle program and urge all manufacturers to bring their vehicles to the marketplace as soon as possible." SOURCE American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
