SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 11 -- Autoweb.com, the leading
online car buying and selling service, today announced the appointment of
Robert Vermeulen as vice president of Technology. An experienced manager of
database-driven web sites, Vermeulen will ensure that Autoweb's technology
remains both "up to speed" and progressive as the firm continues its rapid
growth.
"Autoweb.com has expanded to become the leading and most comprehensive car
buying and selling service on the Internet," said Frank Zamani, co-founder of
Autoweb.com. "Now with more than 230,000 purchase request attempts per month
and more than 2,100 member dealers, we are connecting literally thousands of
potential buyers to automotive dealers nationwide on a daily basis. We needed
an experienced manager to run our sophisticated online database solution.
We're very pleased to welcome Robert on board, since he truly shares our
vision for growth and opportunity."
"Having worked with firms large and small over the years, I wanted to join
an organization that is at the forefront of its industry," explained
Vermeulen. "Autoweb.com is a dynamic company with an early leadership
position in a electronic commerce arena that is rapidly evolving. I have no
doubt that Autoweb will continue to prosper and redefine the category of
online car buying to become one of the only true automotive enthusiast sites
on the Internet."
In the past five years, Vermeulen served as president of Objective
Analysis, Inc., an Internet and database consulting firm whose clients
included American Express, Genentech, GTE, and Time/Warner. Projects ranged
from the creation of online classified advertisement applications to the
development of sales force automation tools. Prior to that, he was a
development manager at Informix.
The author of Upgrading Relational Databases with Objects (1996, SIGS
Books/Prentice-Hall), Vermeulen holds a bachelor of arts in Cognitive Science
from the University of Rochester.
    Founded in November 1994, Autoweb.com ( http://www.autoweb.com ) is the
