Alexander K. Kummant Named President of Filtran Unit at SPX Corporation

    MUSKEGON, Mich., Feb. 11 -- SPX Corporation
announced today that it has named Alexander K. Kummant as President of the
company's Filtran unit.
    Mr. Kummant joins SPX from Emerson Electric Company where he was President
of the SWECO Division in Cincinnati, Ohio.  SWECO Division is a producer of
vibratory separation equipment with operations in the United States, Europe
and Asia.  While at SWECO he held positions as Director of Marketing, and Vice
President Manufacturing before his appointment as President of the business in
1996.
    In 1992 he joined Emerson Electric as Strategic Planner for the Industrial
Components and Equipment Group.  He also held positions with Timken Company,
and Carnegie Group, Inc.
    Mr. Kummant holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
from Case Western Reserve University, a Masters of Manufacturing Engineering
from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Masters of Business Administration from
the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
