Exide Corporation Announces Third Quarter Cash Dividend

    BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., Feb. 11 -- Arthur M. Hawkins,
chairman, president and chief executive officer of Exide Corporation
, today announced that the corporation has declared a cash dividend
of $.02 (two cents) per share of common stock payable March 11, 1998, to
shareholders of record on February 25, 1998.

offices in Reading,  Pennsylvania.  Exide is traded on the New York Stock
