Michelin ZP Family Is Industry FirstNEW YORK, Feb. 10 -- With the introduction of the X-One ZP, the first zero-pressure tire for minivans, Michelin continues to lead the industry with an array of tire lines that virtually eliminate the inconvenience and danger of having to change a flat tire on the side of the road. Michelin first brought the ZP concept to market in 1992 with a tire for the Bugatti EB 11O. While other manufacturers also offered run-flat-type tires for exotic vehicles, Michelin was the first with a zero-pressure tire designed specifically for touring and luxury cars. The MXV4 ZP was originally introduced as an option for the 1996-model Lincoln Continental with special wheels. The replacement-market version of the tire fits on conventional rims and offers touring-quality performance. Michelin has just introduced the industry's first 65-series run-flat-type tire. The new size, a P205/65R15, is part of the MXV4 ZP family and extends zero-pressure fitments to popular full-size passenger cars, such as the Ford Taurus, Toyota Avalon and Nissan Maxima, as well as several BMW models.
