Champion Enterprises, Inc. Completes Sale of Bus Business To Thor Industries, Inc.

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 10 --  Champion Enterprises, Inc.
announced today the completion of the asset sale of its
subsidiary, Champion Motor Coach, Inc., to Thor Industries, Inc.
for approximately $11 million in cash.  Champion Motor Coach, Inc. is located
in Imlay City, Michigan, and is the third largest manufacturer of small and
mid-size buses in the United States.  Bus sales in 1997 were approximately
$60 million.
    Champion's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Walter R. Young, Jr.,
said, "As Champion's housing operations grew to more than $1.6 billion in
annual sales, we decided to sell the bus business to a company more dedicated
to the bus industry.  Thor Industries, which is the largest manufacturer of
mid-size buses in the United States, is a great home for Champion Motor
Coach."
    Champion Enterprises, Inc., headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, is
the number one company in the manufactured housing industry and has produced
more than 1.3 million homes since the company was founded.  For the year ended
December 28, 1996, sales were $1.6 billion and earnings per share were $1.09,
after nonrecurring merger and other charges of $0.34 per share.  The company
has 55 home building facilities in 33 locations.  Champion has five home
retail subsidiaries operating 57 sales centers and over 3,500 independent
retail locations.
