Chicago Auto Show: Car of the Year Becomes the Car in Her DrivewayCHICAGO, Feb. 6 -- Jeanne Pollard will soon find out why the Chevrolet Corvette was selected North American Car of the Year by the nation's premier automotive journalists. Pollard's ticket was pulled as the grand prize winner for this year's Chicago Auto Show First Look for Charity -- and a brilliant red 1998 Corvette convertible is now hers. Pollard, an auditor for Arthur Andersen, came to the annual charity soiree' hoping to enjoy the company of her boyfriend and help raise funds for the twelve charitable organizations that benefit from the event. "I know everyone says it, but it's true, I just can't believe it," said Pollard "I don't know if I'll just keep this to drive on weekends or get rid of my car, but I think it's just fabulous." The Corvette convertible helped draw a record group to the event which raised $1.27 million for the organizations. Show chairman Ray Scarpelli said the night was an unqualified success. "I couldn't be more pleased with the results of this event. The charities benefit and the nation's largest auto show has been launched for the 90th time in grand style." More than one million people are expected to attend the Chicago Auto Show during its nine-day run. The show is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and runs through Feb. 15.
