Paul Haluza Retiring After Successful Career With The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers AssociationRESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Feb. 5 -- Paul T. Haluza, vice president of government affairs, will retire from the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) Friday, Feb. 6, 1998. Haluza's retirement marks the end of a long and distinguished career in the automotive industry. Since Haluza joined MEMA in 1981, he has managed MEMA's government affairs functions at both federal and state levels. He has been a strong advocate for MEMA-member interests and has represented members before many government agencies, including Congressional committees, state legislatures, and the European Parliament. Government agencies have come to depend on MEMA as a reliable source for industry information. His efforts were instrumental in Congress' unanimous passage of the product anti-counterfeiting bill in 1984. Haluza believes the automotive industry has a responsibility to aggressively support technician education to ensure technicians have the skills necessary to work on today's high technology vehicles. He was a founder of the Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR), an alliance of industry, government and educators. For his efforts, Northwood University honored him with its Automotive Aftermarket Management Education Award in 1997. A native of Great Neck, N.Y., Haluza and his wife Elaine have made their home in Mason Neck, Va., for the past 30 years. Founded in 1904, MEMA exclusively represents and serves more than 700 U.S. manufacturers of motor vehicle components, tools and equipment, automotive chemicals, and related products used in the production repair, and maintenance of all classes of motor vehicles. MEMA is headquartered in Research Triangle Park, N.C., and has offices in Washington, D.C.; Yokohama, Japan; Brussels, Belgium; Mexico City, Mexico; and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
