Audi Records Best January in Twelve Years

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 3 -- Audi of America, Inc. reported
U.S. sales of 2,696 for the month of January, representing a 12.1 percent
increase over the same month last year when sales were 2,404.
    It was Audi's best January since 1986.  The primary drivers of this
success remain Audi's A4 and A6 models representing 51.8 percent and 41.2
percent respectively of the overall sales mix.  In fact, sales of the A6 were
70% above last January's total.  Audi has demonstrated this kind of year-over-
previous-year sales increase for 36 of the last 38 months.
    Last month, Audi reported its best December since 1985 and the best sales
month overall since July of 1987.  For the full year, Audi's total 1997 sales
were 34,160, up 24.8 percent.  This achievement marks Audi's best sales year
in the U.S. since 1987 and its third straight year of double-digit growth.
