Apogee Enterprises, Inc. Names Robert G. Barbieri Vice President - Finance - Chief Financial Officer

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 3 -- Apogee Enterprises, Inc.

U.S. Airways, an $8-billion airline, headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.
Barbieri, 42, joined Apogee in January 1997 as Corporate Controller.
Since that time, he has also assumed leadership of Apogee's strategic
planning, business development, and information technology areas. Prior to
Apogee, Barbieri was Division Controller at Air Products, Inc. in Allentown,
Pennsylvania, where he served as the Chief Financial Officer and directed a
team of 90 professionals for the General Industries Gases Division, a
$2 billion collection of businesses. Prior to his 12-year career with Air
Products, he was with Hoescht/MG Industries, Inc. and American Standard, Inc.
"Bob Barbieri is a first-rate manager with strong financial and strategic
planning experience," said Russell Huffer, Apogee's President and Chief
Executive Officer. "We are pleased to have such a capable and innovative
leader step in to replace Terry Hall, who made tremendous contributions to
Apogee's success over the past few years."
Huffer continued, "Bob has already proven himself to be a highly
sophisticated financial strategist. He has taken a leading role in our drive
to increase shareholder value as we expand our Glass Technologies segment and
improve the returns from our Building Products & Services businesses. In
addition, he recently revamped our strategic planning process and is now
beginning to implement enterprise resource planning systems on a company-wide
basis. We believe this effort will more effectively align the strategies of
our businesses with our long-term goals, and have a meaningful impact on
shareholder value."
Barbieri received a master's degree in business administration in 1984
from Drexel University in Philadelphia after completing bachelor's degrees in
administration and accounting. He is a member of the Institute of Certified
Management Accountants and the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. He lives in
the Minneapolis area with his wife and children.
