St. Louis Post Dispatch Announces Enterprise Rent-A-Car is the Rental Car Industry Leader

ST. LOUIS, Feb. 2 -- The St. Louis Post Dispatch just
announced that Enterprise Rent-A-Car is the U.S. rental car industry leader.
For the first time, Enterprise is the largest in fleet size, number of
locations and now revenue (as ranked by the Auto Rental News 1998 Fact Book).
As a result of the growth, Enterprise ($3.1 billion in 1997 in U.S. rental
revenue) surpassed Hertz in revenue for the first time.
In a year when nearly all car rental companies went public, privately held
Enterprise has quietly become the industry leader. Headquartered in the
Midwest, Enterprise Rent-A-Car focuses on renting cars for those occasions
when the customer's own car is in for repair or when their car is not suitable
for a local trip or large group of people. Enterprise CEO Andy Taylor, along
with a team of Enterprise employees, built the company from the ground up in
the often overlooked home-city rental car market.
"It was never our goal to become the largest rental car company," said
Taylor, "we only wanted to be the best." He attributes Enterprise's success
to its employees and the decentralized nature of the company.
"We empower all of our employees at the local level to make business
decisions that will better serve the needs of our customers. We are a company
that operates from the bottom-up, not the top down," said Taylor.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car has 3,400 locations throughout the United States,
Canada, the U.K., and this past fall started operating in Germany. Founded in
1957, Enterprise has locations within 15 minutes of about 90 percent of the
U.S. population.
