Borg-Warner Automotive's Joint Venture, Warner-Ishi Corp. Achieves QS-9000 CertificationCHICAGO, Feb. 2 -- Borg-Warner Automotive, Inc. announced today that Shelbyville, Illinois-based Warner-Ishi Corp., a joint venture between Borg-Warner Automotive's Morse TEC group and Ishikawajima- Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., has received its QS-9000 certification. QS-9000 is the Quality System Standard that was developed by a joint Chrysler/Ford/General Motors Task Force. It includes both the requirements of the international quality standard, ISO-9001, and the specific automotive industry requirements which are more stringent than the international standard. The certification was issued on December 22, 1997. "This recognition means we have met or exceeded the stringent requirements of an industry-sanctioned benchmark for excellence," said John Dennis, general manager of Warner-Ishi. "As such, it represents a significant achievement for Warner-Ishi and its employees, and is evidence of our commitment to product leadership and continuous improvement." QS-9000 certification is a requirement for doing business with the North American automotive industry. The certification process involved an extensive audit of the company's overall operating systems by TUV America, a third-party auditing firm. The audit was completed in October 1997. Retention of the certification will require successful completion of semi-annual audits by this same auditor. Warner-Ishi produces turbochargers for gasoline and diesel engine applications. Its major customers include General Motors Corp., Warner-Ishi Europe, Kohler Corp., Generac Corp., Isuzu of America, and several companies in the independent aftermarket. Other Morse TEC operations that have received the QS-9000 certification are: Morse TEC Engine Timing Components, Ithaca, New York; Morse TEC Transmission Components, also in Ithaca; Borg-Warner Automotive (Canada) Ltd., Simcoe, Ontario; and B.W. Componentes Mexicanos de Transmisiones, S.A. de C.V., a joint venture in El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico.
